WBYC is the host for the 2005 Inter-Lake Regatta
to be held August 5-7.

111th Inter-Lake Regatta

The White Bear Yacht Club is pleased to host the 2005 Inter-Lake Regatta. All Inter-Lake Yachting Association member Yacht Clubs (Calhoun Yacht Club, Clear Lake Yacht Club, Lake Harriet Yacht Club, Minnetonka Yacht Club, Missouri Yacht Club, Okoboji Yacht Club, Upper Minnetonka Yacht Club, and the White Bear Yacht Club) are invited to send their representatives to this team racing regatta which promises excellent racing & social activities. This year we are allowing each club to send an unlimited number of yachts in each of the 4 classes (E, C, MC and X) however only the top 5 from each fleet will be included in the team race scoring.

The Inter-Lake Regatta began around 1895, pre-dating the formation of the ILYA, as a challenge regatta between the White Bear Yacht Club and the Minnetonka Yacht Club. At that time, the event was viewed as a major social and sporting event in the region. In the first few years of the regatta, the challenge alternated only between White Bear and Minnetonka. Boats were transported by rail and by horse drawn carts to the lakes. The best linens and silver were brought out and used at the regatta's social gatherings. Newspaper coverage of the racing was complete and extensive, and the whole regatta was a real highlight of the summer.

The boats used at the earliest regattas were gaff-rigged B or C boats. Gradually, over the years as other fleets developed around the region, additional lakes were invited to join in the competition each summer. Most people do not realize that the Inter-Lake Regatta has always been an invitational regatta, not an open event. The event has always attracted the top skippers who must qualify at their home lake to sail in the event. The whole atmosphere of the regatta is more relaxed than at an Inland event and this is the one place you can bring all your boats and get the whole family on the water at once!

ELIGIBILITY (back to top)
All E, C, MC and X Scows from Inter-Lake Yachting Association member Yacht Clubs meeting ILYA and/or national association scantlings are eligible to sail in this event.
