       WBYC is pleased to host the 2007 ILYA Class E Invitational Regatta
to be held July 12-15.


2007 Class E Invitational Regatta

The 2007Class E Invitational Regatta will be held July 12-15 (Thursday - Sunday at White Bear Lake, MN with registration and launching on Thursday July 12. The White Bear Yacht Club invites all ILYA Yacht Clubs to send their E Fleets for this classic event.

As usual, the red carpet will be out at White Bear Lake, so you can expect a fantastic weekend of fun racing and great social events in the grand style of the club where the ILYA was founded. General information is provided below.  Click here for the complete NOR.

REGATTA HEADQUARTERS (back to top)
Regatta headquarters will be at the White Bear Yacht Club, Sailor’s Pavilion in Dellwood. Skipper’s meeting, one-hour gun, spectator boats, taxi boats, and lunches will take place or be available at regatta headquarters.


REGATTA ELIGIBILITY (back to top)

The regatta is open to all Class E scows whose skippers comply with the requirements set out in the ILYA bylaws and are Family, Regular, Youth or Life members of the ILYA. Boats sailing asymmetrical spinnakers as well as those sailing with symmetrical spinnakers are welcome to race. (Note to boats planning to race with asymmetrical spinnakers: At least 5 such boats must complete registration by June 29 in order for any asymmetrical spinnaker boats to race in this event.) Crew members become members of the Association by virtue of the yacht’s completed registration. Online registration through the ILYA website is recommended. Click Here for secure access and credit card handling. On-site registration and registration pack­ets will be available at the WBYC’s water­front Sailors’ Pavilion on Thursday July 12 from 4:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m. Registration is not completed until Sailing Instructions have been received and receipt acknowledged.


LAUNCHING MOORING AND HAUL OUT (back to top)
Launching will take place at Ramsey County Beach Public Beach on the NW shore of White Bear Lake. Click here for area map and follow the links for detailed maps. There will NOT be a crane available for launching or haul out. Launch times are Thursday, July 12, 4pm to 7pm and Friday morning July 13 8am to 9am. WBYC sailors will provide launch and towing assistance on Thursday afternoon only. Trailers will be parked at a nearby site. Directions to trailer parking will be available at the launch site.

Mooring at WBYC is approximately 10-15 feet deep with WNW exposure; thus, mooring equipment must be stout.  Participants must furnish all of their own mooring gear.  Water taxi service to and from boats moored at WBYC will be available.

White Bear Yacht Club does not allow powerboats to moor overnight at the Club.  The Regatta Committee will make arrangements to moor accompanying powerboats at private homes.  The Committee will appreciate early notice of your powerboat mooring needs.

Invasive Species Alert: Certain harmful invasive species that can threaten natural resources and their use have been designated as prohibited exotic species in Minnesota. It is unlawful (a misdemeanor) to possess, import, purchase, transport, or introduce these species except under a permit for disposal, control, research, or education. Please help us control this problem.


RACE SCHEDULE (back to top)
A competitor’s briefing will take place at 9:00 a.m. Friday morning at the Sailors Pavilion. Five races are sched­uled. The warning signal for the first race will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday. The asymmetri­cal spinnaker fleet will start 5 minutes ahead of the symmetrical spinnaker fleet. Both fleets will sail the same course. Warning signals for subsequent races will be posted by the Race Committee. No race will begin after 12 Noon on Sunday if at least two races have been completed by that time.


SOCIAL SCHEDULE (back to top)
The WBYC Sailing Division welcomes you to a welcoming reception at the Sailors’ Pavilion on Thursday, July 12, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. with a variety of complementary light refreshments, wine, beer, and soft drinks.

A complementary continental break­fast will be available on race day mornings at the Sailors' Pavilion beginning at 8:00 a.m. Box lunches with pop or water will be available on all race days. Complementary bottled water will be available for all sailors before heading out to race.

Friday evening relaxation begins at the beautiful Manitou Island home of Jock and Twinks Irvine, directly across the bay from WBYC. Regatta participants will enjoy a delicious lakeside dinner under the evening sky. A cash bar will be available.

Saturday evening we’ll enjoy a cash bar reception around the WBYC pool beginning at 6:00 p.m. followed by the Club’s famous buffet dinner at 7:00 p.m. in the Main Dining Room.

Meal ticket packages can be purchased at the Registration table.


TROPHIES (back to top)
Trophies will be awarded to the race winners and top seven boats in the symmetrical fleet, and the top three finishers in the asymmetrical fleet. The champion of the symmetrical fleet is awarded the Jule Hannaford trophy, an ILYA perpetual tro­phy given each year in memory of its name­sake.


POWERBOATS (back to top)
Powerboats can only be launched at the Ramsey County Beach. Please be sure you have the appropriate licensing, safety and mooring equipment for your boat.

The Regatta Committee expects to be able to offer free lodging in private homes. The Committee would appreciate early notice of your lodging needs, preferably no later than July 6th.

A block of rooms has been reserved at a special price for regatta participants at Best Western White Bear Country Inn, telephone 651-429-5393; 4940 Highway 61, White Bear Lake. Please reserve space before Wednesday, June 13. This motel is located about one mile from the WBYC and one-third mile from the launch and haul-out site. Another block of special rate rooms has been reserved at AmericInn Lodge & Suites, telephone 651-429-7131, White Bear Parkway and Highway 96, White Bear Lake. The AmericInn block of rooms will be held until Saturday June 30.
