The 2005 White Bear Class A Invitational Regatta will be held at White Bear Lake June 24 - 26, 2005. Launching and registration will take place on Thursday, June 23, with two races scheduled for Friday, two races on Saturday and one race on Sunday morning. We look forward to seeing you here.

2005 White Bear Class A Invitational Regatta

The 2005 White Bear Class A Invitational Regatta will be held June 24 - 26 at White Bear Lake, MN with registration and launching on Thursday June 23. The White Bear Yacht Club invites all Yacht Clubs to send their representatives to this regatta which promises excellent racing & social activities.



ELIGIBILITY (back to top)
All Class A Scows meeting NCASA and former ILYA scantlings are eligible to sail in this event. The racing format will feature two fleets, with two starts for the "NCASA One Design" and "ILYA Open Class" fleets. Starts will be five minutes apart, the larger fleet starting first.


REGATTA HEADQUARTERS (back to top)
Regatta headquarters will be at the White Bear Yacht Club, Sailor’s Pavilion in Dellwood. Skipper’s meeting, one-hour gun, spectator boats, taxi boats, and lunches will take place or be available at regatta headquarters.


RULES/JURISDICTION (back to top)
The Regatta will be governed by The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), the prescriptions of the United States Sailing Association, the rules and bylaws of the White Bear Yacht Club, the scantling rules of each fleet, except as any of these are modified by the sailing instructions.


ADVERTISING (back to top)
This regatta is classified as a category B event in the accord with RRS rule 79, "Advertising", and Appendix G, but advertising beyond that is allowed in a category A event shall be limited to the clothing worn by the crew and the equipment carried by them.


LAUNCHING AND HAUL OUT (back to top)
Launching will take place at Ramsey County Beach. There will NOT be a crane available for launching or haul out.
Exotic Species Alert: Certain harmful exotic species that can threaten natural resources and their use have been designated as prohibited exotic species in Minnesota. It is unlawful (a misdemeanor) to possess, import, purchase, transport, or introduce these species except under a permit for disposal, control, research, or education. Please help us control this problem.


REGISTRATION (back to top)
Launching and Registration will open at 3:00 p.m. Thursday June 23 and will close at 8:00 p.m. There will be NO FRIDAY AM HELP AT THE LAUNCH SITE. During registration, sailing instructions and the schedule of events will be distributed. Event tickets, t-shirts, hats, etc. can be purchased at this time also. CASH OR CHECK ONLY.

SPECTATOR BOATS (back to top)
A limited number of spectator boats will be available. Please sign-up at registration if you plan to use this service.


TRAILER PARKING (back to top)
Trailers will be parked at the White Bear High School North Campus. There will be signs directing you to the parking lot after you launch your boat.


POWERBOATS (back to top)
Powerboats can be launched at the Ramsey County Beach. Please be sure you have the appropriate licensing, safety and mooring equipment for your boat. For the convenience of skippers, crews, and visiting spectator's, arrangements will be made for accompanying powerboats to be moored at private homes during the regatta. Early notice of your requirements will be appreciated.


MOORING (back to top)
Each yacht shall be required to provide its own anchor and sufficient mooring line for depths of 15-25 ft. If you wish to have your anchor pulled after the regatta, place one of our yellow ribbons (with your name on it) on your mooring. We will pull it, and deliver it to the haul out site. It is your responsibility to take it from there.

The A fleets will race on one course and we will set courses that use the longest legs possible given the prevailing winds.


RACE SCHEDULE (back to top)
A skipper’s meeting will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Friday morning. Racing will begin Friday morning at 10:00 a.m., with subsequent races as posted on the Official Regatta Notice Board. Every effort will be made to complete all five scheduled races in each fleet. No race will start after noon on Sunday if three races have already been completed.


SOCIAL SCHEDULE (back to top)
There will be a welcoming party at the Sailor's Pavilion on Thursday, June 23rd from 5:00 - 8:00 pm. with complimentary Hors d'oeuvres, popcorn, chips, wine, beer, and soft drinks.

A complimentary continental breakfast will be available on the morning of each racing day at the Sailor's Pavilion starting at 8:00 am. Box lunches with soda or water will be available at the Sailor's Pavilion on all racing days. In addition, skippers will be furnished complimentary bottled water before the start of each race.

A cash bar will be set up at the Sailor's Pavilion after the afternoon race on Friday and pool-side on Saturday afternoon.

On Friday night a lawn party will be held beginning at 6:30 pm at John (Smokey) and Marge Ordway's lake front home located 1/3 mile north of the Yacht Club. Entertainment will be provided by a local bluegrass band.

Saturday evening, the Regatta Committee will host a reception and dinner at the WBYC beginning at 6:30 pm. A guest speaker will present a lecture on the history of the A Scow and related history of the WBYC.

The Principal Race Officer for the event will be Louis Newell.


TROPHIES (back to top)
Trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers in both the One Design and Open classes. Trophies will be presented following haul out at approximately 2:00 pm. Sunday.
