NCESA Approves New Scantlings - After four years of experimentation the NCESA membership approved the use of the Asymmetrical Sail for 2008, including changes to hull scantlings to add an asymmetrical bow sprit with appropriate control lines, changes to the mast scantlings to add diamond stays to support the additional load of a masthead sail (this addition is allowed with either spinnaker configuration, allowing an optional second set of spreaders to support the diamond wires and further stabilize the mast), changes to sail scantlings to provide dimensions for an asymmetrical spinnaker, keeping the symmetrical spinnaker a legal configuration, but only allowing a boat to register appropriate spinnakers for a regatta (so that you cannot flip back and forth), and allowing only one asymmetrical spinnaker to be registered for a regatta.
